Common questions

Can I combine multiple grants?

Generally no for the same measure (e.g. you can't claim BUS and ECO4 for the same heat pump). But you can stack grants for different measures (e.g. BUS for the heat pump, ECO4 for insulation if you qualify).

Do I apply myself or does the installer?

For BUS and EV Chargepoint Grants, the installer applies on your behalf and the grant is deducted from your bill. For ECO4 and Warm Homes: Local Grant, you contact the scheme administrator (your energy supplier for ECO4; your local authority for WHLG) and they organise an installer. For Home Energy Scotland, you apply via the Energy Saving Trust.

What about the 0% VAT — is that a grant?

Not technically — it's a tax relief. But it works like a grant in practice: your installer doesn't charge you VAT on heat pumps, solar, batteries and other energy-saving materials. The relief runs until 31 March 2027, then reverts to 5% (not 20%).

Why isn't there a grant for me to get a home EV charger?

The original Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) closed on 31 March 2022 for owner-occupier homeowners in houses. The replacement EV Chargepoint Grant is only available to renters, flat owner-occupiers, on-street parking households and landlords. If you own and live in a freehold house, no grant currently exists for you. See our EV Chargepoint Grant guide.
